Orphaned elephants who are sad and alone are getting a lift from an ostrich who loves nothing more than some major cuddles.
One such baby elephant is Jotto, who was just a month old when he fell down a well and got separated from his herd.
He was rescued by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) and brought back to their orphanage in Kenya where he could live safely before being returned to the wild.
And it was here that Jotto met Pea – an orphaned ostrich who counts herself as one of the elephant herd and likes to cuddle up with her fellow orphans.
DSWT wrote: “It is safe to say orphaned ostrich Pea most definitely believes she is part of the elephant herd and little Jotto is more than happy to enjoy a cuddle with his feathered friend.
“Beautifully tender moments at the Nairobi Nursery, where these two orphans and many, many others, are being given the opportunity to heal and, when they are ready, to return to the wild.”
Pea herself was rescued with her brother Pod in 2014 and brought back to the Nairobi Nursery to live with the elephants.
Pod returned to the wild earlier this year but Pea stuck around and now offers comfort to the other animals that live there.
