Sly Whale Calf Sneaks Off from Sleeping Mom to to “Greet” the Divers

A pair of divers had a rare encounter in the sea as they were brushed up against by a playful baby humpback whale.

Incredible drone footage showed the two divers a safe distance away from the baby whale as she splashed in the water around her snoozing mother.

The youngster then snuck away and swam up to one of the divers, scooping the snorkeller onto her belly with her pectoral fin.

A pair of divers had a rare encounter in the sea after a playful baby humpback whale brushed stomachs with one of them

For a few precious seconds the pair rested motionless, stomach pressed against stomach.

At length, the whale pushed her away from the stunned swimmer with her tail. 

While Australian photographer Eamon Porter may have captured the tender moment on his drone, there was a chance things might not have ended so well.

Had the baby whale swung her tail in the wrong direction, she could have unintentionally hit the diver and caused catastrophe. 

Baby humpback whales can grow to almost 20metres and weigh more than 30,000kg.

If I was the diver in this situation, I would never forget this moment. It’s so beautiful and rare and just touches your heart.

Then, this adventurous teen swims over and visits the divers. It is truly an extraordinary day for the divers, and they won’t ever forget this rare event.

After this beautiful moment, she goes back to her mother as nothing has happened. What a sly girl!
