Lynx Mama Brings Her 7 Kittens to Revisit Man’s Yard in Alaska

Alaska, a land of pristine beauty and untamed wilderness, is home to many incredible wildlife encounters. One such meeting was experienced by Tim Newton, who woke up one day to a sound he had never heard before. What he saw next was nothing short of magical.

A Miraculous Morning

Tim was greeted by the sight of a Lynx family scampering outside his home. These bright representatives of the cat family are often recognized by their characteristic ears and are relatively small in size. A lynx can have a body length ranging from 70-130 centimeters and weigh between 18-32 kilograms.

One of the unique features of the lynx is its legs. The hind legs are longer than the front ones; while the back paws have four toes, the front only boasts five. As winter approaches, thick fur grows on their paws, aiding them in moving effortlessly through the snow.

On that fateful day, these magnificent creatures were playfully frolicking across Tim’s deck and lawn, leaving him in awe of their beauty and grace.

Spotting a lynx in the wild is a rare occurrence. So, imagine Tim’s surprise when he saw not one but an entire family of eight lynxes right outside his home! However, their visit was brief, and Tim didn’t expect to see them again. But nature had other plans. An Unexpected Revisit

Two months after the initial encounter, Tim’s wife, Cathy Newton, was awakened by a familiar sound on a snowy day. To her astonishment, the lynx family had returned! On November 11, the mama lynx and her seven kittens were back, playfully darting across the deck, reminiscent of their last visit. Cathy, still in disbelief, quickly began recording this rare occasion.

It was a sight to behold as the kittens engaged in playful antics with their mother. Five of them were on the deck, playing with their mama, while the other two were in the yard, engaging in some friendly roughhousing. The snow-covered deck witnessed their incredible playtime, with big paw prints scattered all over, marking their joyful presence.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of this encounter was watching the mama lynx play as enthusiastically as her kittens. It was a gentle reminder of the playful side of nature, often hidden from human eyes. The lynx family’s revisit was not just a delightful experience for the Newtons but also an affirmation of the beauty and wonders of the natural world.

Fun Facts About Lynxes:

Adapted for the Cold: The thick fur on a lynx’s paws acts as snowshoes, helping them move quickly in snowy terrains.

A Keen Sense of Hearing:  Those tufted ears are not just for show. They give the lynx an acute sense of hearing, helping them detect even the slightest movement of their prey.

A Solitary Hunter: Despite their playful nature, lynxes are solitary hunters, relying on stealth and agility to catch their prey.
