Extremely Lucky Hiker Meet an Ultra-Rare White Reindeer in Norway

The more you wander around the amazing Earth, the more whimsical creatures you encounter. And it never ceases to amaze us!

The photographs captured by wildlife photography enthusiast Mads Nordsveen are visual proof of that.

While he was on a trip to Oslo, Norway, Mads came across a beautiful and extremely rare white baby deer.

The 24-year-old said: “I was walking in the mountains looking for nice landscapes for my travel photography when out of nowhere I saw this adorable animal.”

While the wintery background almost entirely camouflaged the cute deer, the photographer said it made no attempt to hide and even ‘posed’ for some pictures.

But Nordsveen got more than pictures from experience: “He came very close to me, and we looked at each other straight in the eyes,” he recalled,

“After some minutes the mother of the white deer came out of trees just behind. It walked around for some minutes before running back to its mother. It was very magical and a fairy tale moment.”

Sharing the images on Instagram, the photographer commented: “He almost disappeared into the snow!”

White reindeers are considered very rare. In 2016 a white stag was spotted on a roadside in Mala, in northern Sweden.

Their rare appearance is caused by a genetic condition that strips the pigment from their fur, but not albinism.

According to some Scandinavian traditions, spotting a white reindeer is considered a sign of good luck.

“He behaved as if he was posing for my photos… he was very curious and funny, like a little explorer” – the photographer explained amazed.

Being such passionate about photography and exploring, this wasn’t the first time Mads encountered such rare species.

He got to meet a Lynx and wolves, both also in Northern Norway.
